FAQs - Guidelines

When implementing a Flexible Working Hours and Arrangements, an important element is to produce a set of “Working Rules” or Guidelines - which can either work as:

a) a “one size fits all” approach or
b) can be more “tailored” for the individual employees needs.

Either way the needs of the organisation are paramount.

So looking at the guidelines for flexible working hours that take the “one size fits all” approach, such rules will often indicate that employees may start work between, for example, 7.30am and 10am, they must be present between 10am and 12 noon. They may then depart between 4pm and 7pm.

A Flexible Lunch Break may be taken between 12 noon and 2pm and employees must be present between 2pm and 4pm;

The “tailored version” might offer the employee a different starting, lunchtime or finishing “band” to others in the group – depending on work processes of course.  Add to this are the possiblities of job and work sharing, term time, working from home, hot desking and a picture emerges of the modern workplace.

We at MultiTime have formulated countless sets of Guidelines. If you are looking at the subject for the first time we can provide sample Guidelines.  If you would like copies, kindly contact us.
