The Institute of Public Administration for Ireland Study

The Institute of Public Administration for Ireland or the I.P.A. is the Irish Government’s body which offers courses and training up to degree level to Public Servants.

The I.P.A. are themselves a customer of FlexTime’s.

The Human Resources program of the Institute decided to assess what a selected number of organisations/bodies have eperienced with the subject of Flexible working Hours. The results were provided in a report and were announced at a Special Seminar – at which Flextime attended.

The Management in 18 leading organisations were involved in the study including-

R.T.E. (The National Television Service); The IPA; An Insurance Company ; Arthur Guinness & Co.; The Irish Times; AXA & Aer Lingus.

15 of the organisations were customers of Flextime, while the remaining three did not use flexible working hours.

Here are some of the conclusions:-

  • Productivity : 33% of respondents reported an increase
  • Starting Work : 73% of respondents reported that it was “quicker to commence work”
  • Quality of work : 27% of respondents reported an improvement
  • Lateness : 80% of respondents reported that staff were late significantly less often
  • Absence: 53% of respondents reported that staff were absent less often (33% “a bit less often”; 20% “significantly less often”).
  • Overtime : 67% of respondents reported a decrease
  • Employee morale: 100% of respondents reported an increase
  • Staff Turnover : 20% of respondents reported a decrease
  • Staff reaction to Flexible Working Hours : 100% like it
  • Flexible Working Hours is beneficial to : Staff 40% ; Both Staff & Organisation : 60%
