The University of Birmingham has several very large Car Parks used by their 5,000 staff and many of their 15,000 students.
There was a pressing need to automate the capture and charge of the car park payments.
MultiTime set about providing a solution. The first challenge was to find a way of easily allowing users to record their parking times. The existing access control system in place at the University was Cardax supplied by Gallagher Security. Therefore, in order to have a seamless change to car park payments, it was decided to unitise the swipe units already in place.
Thus, the employee records his/her time by using the access control card to swipe at car park barriers.
This swiping action is sent immediately to the Mo–Time : Car Park Charge System, which calculates the time for charging.
The appropriate amount is then automatically charged to the employee by a deduction from pay.
Now 5,000 staff have daily use of the Mo-Time - Car Park Charge System.
Apart from the major advantage of provding the University with much needed revenue, the system has several other key advantages :
• the regulation of scarce car parking space
• The elimination of coin collection, counting and of payment to Security Company for collecting cash and now also no vandalism to "pay & display" machines
• The automatic notification of charges to staff with automatic charging in the employee's salary with a statement of changes.
Employees at the University are also much happier with a system which removes the need to carry correct change.
