The University of Dublin, Trinity College has been a
customer of FlexTime’s since the early 1980’s.  The College
has moved through each generation of our systems and are
currently using VisionTimeWeb.

With the College being so centrally located in Dublin, it can
be  a challenge for staff in trying to get to and from work.  

Therefore, Flexible Working Hours has been playing a vital
role in the working life of administration staff at the Colleges’ Finance and Treasurer’s Departments.

 For example, some may wish to make us use of the flexitime concept so as to avoid the traffic build up.  

Generally utilising the public transport network in a better way is seen as vital advantage.  Indeed, with plans to extend the LUAS, Dublin’s rapid transport system, right alongside the College, never has flexible working hours been so relevant.

The city centre aspect can also allow staff to benefit from other aspects of the flexitime concept.  For instance, by taking longer lunches on certain days it is possible to access, arguably the best selection of retail outlets in Ireland.  On other days, this time can be worked up by taking short lunches.  Equally, evening activities are more accessible when needed.

Staff in the College’s Finance and Treasurer’s Departments key in an out at a series of Time Terminals located at convenient points. When necessary, Staff enter updates to their time and absence records which are then electronically “signed off “by the system Supervisors.  The overall automation saves considerable time for the central Administrators.  

With the aid of the reporting output in VisionTimeWeb, it is now easy to manage the overall usage of the flexi concept.  This is particularly important given  the new flexibilities in terms of working time arrangements, which have been agreed at national level in recent times.   Thus, there is there is evidence from many of our projects that staff in general want to exercise new and agreed “time options”, such as job share, work share, term time, home working etc.  This ought to be more complex to manage.  However, another crucial aspect of the system design, such as the facility to easily create & change working time arrangements, can make it easy to cater for such new “time options”.  In addition, VisionTimeWeb automatically recognises - differing flexi carryovers, diverse flexi periods & any “shape” of day - and for each person, if necessary.
