STUDENT TIME
Student Attendance at lectures has long been a source of concern to those in authority at our Universities, for number of reasons. Some colleges have a wish just to improve their attendance records. Others might have experienced a general fall off in attendance. Others still could be concerned for example, that first year students are particularly prone to absence. Some situations can quite quickly become irretrievable, where as early as Christmas in first year, some students have already become an academic “lost cause”.
Could this have been reversed if those responsible knew more instantly about the employee’s early attendance trend? Are there early warning signs?
Student Time is an innovative web based system is designed and developed in Dublin by FlexTime and is promoted in the UK by MultiTime, our marketing arm. Student Time can provide you with exactly the type of attendance information you need to support good decision making about your students including their welfare. Student Time record and manages the attendance of students attending lectures or classes, taking information from a range of sources. The system also provides access to student attendance activity for Lecturers and others in authority that would have a role in ensuring good attendance.
The system can be installed without modification. However, our biggest skill is in working with the client in delivering a solution specific to their needs.
So in general we provide our core solution, with changes to it “around the edges” to suit the culture or the need of the individual situation.

How is Data Captured?
There are many ways we can capture time information. A critical consideration in terms of university students – is the sheer numbers often attending lectures and a wish not to disrupt proceeding with an invasive method of clocking.
So, for example, students can record arrival and departure times via
• Time Readers: These devices can be activated …
- PASSIVELY - as the users walks in the vicinity of long range RFID readers from between 75m and 300m, it reads the students’ card or token on a key ring. - This allows for a large throughput at the beginning of each lecture, avoiding delays

- ACTIVELY - by students waving a plastic card and/or inputting a PIN number or by reading a biometric fingerprint or hand reader. Where the user forgets or loses a card he/she can instead use the pin pad for clocking.
• Mobile Phone, P.C.s and Touch Screens:
Irrespective of what method is chosen for use, the arrival and departure data is always sent instantly and automatically into the Student Time Database.
This Database is a standard Microsoft SQL Database. There is no limit to the number of times the Student can clock in/out. Meanwhile Lecturing & Administrative Staff can have direct access over the intranet to time and absence records irrespective of their physical location in the network. In addition, and if necessary, Student Time allows others with access to PCs located anywhere in the network - to instantly see who is in/out,for example, the security/safety officer.
Student Time Software then makes all of the attendance activity available to lecturers at PCs – which can be located anywhere.
